Penicuik Estate
Development Manager with ‘Penicuik Estate Partnership LLP’, on behalf of the Clerk family. Penicuik Estate comprises over 7,500 acres of agricultural land, woodland, peatland situated around one of Scotland and the UK’s most significant Designed Landscapes and host of Grade A listed architectural assets.
As a lead advisor to the future development vision, the work has involved a diverse selection of initiatives from restoration of the major peatland site working with NatureScot, to site-wide infrastructure design, community engagement, design team appointments and development management for a major hospitality and tourism destination. Sensitive restoration and redevelopment of existing buildings is blended with contemporary new-build, with intricate negotiations with the Planning Authority, Historic Environment Scotland, SEPA and many other statutory consultees.
Further strategic land promotion initiatives of various scales are sensitively underway through direction provided by Terra Nova Scotland to support long term commercial viability of the Estate.
The Development Vision is being delivered through a ‘triple bottom line’ approach, with opportunities appraised and prioritised through environmental, social and economic criteria in considered balance to ensure a sustainable future for the landscape, the community and Estate operations.
